Streetcar-Themed Pedicabs: A Cute, Probably Dangerous Idea

The streetcar is taking its good sweet time arriving to H Street NE. So, the folks from H Street Main Street have an idea to at least get those pesky double parkers used to the idea of something running down those tracks with regularity: they're going to have pedicabs decorated as streetcars going down the tracks. This isn't going to be a regular occurrence, but rather a part of an event called Streetcar Stroll and Roll on July 26th and August 23rd. These free pedicab rides from Union Station to Maryland Avenue are good idea in theory, but here's the thing about that: the tracks are not terribly safe for cyclists. In fact, enough cyclists have had nasty wipeouts due to getting caught in the tracks that the city implemented two-way bike lanes on both of the adjacent parallel streets. Let's hope that no pedicabs wipe out because that could be both painful and disastrous.
