Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Kristen Taekman is a real housewife, not a fake one. She also lives in New York City, not fake New York City, like Seinfeld or Friends. Kristen Taekman's cosmetics line is called Pop of Color, not PoC. Yet, the Twitter handle for said line is @POC_beauty.

Pop of Color previously focused solely on nail polish, and is due to follow a seemingly never-ending trend currently taking the cosmetics industry by storm. They are expanding their line and launching matte liquid lipsticks, or as Taekman referred to it on her Twitter last night, "matte lipgloss."

Having hired a clearly socially inept and unaware social media team, the acronym that the tangible housewife's line stands for is not known for being a pop of color, rather people of color, which Kristen Taekman is exactly the opposite of. What's even more absurd about this whole blunder is that there are several accounts with iterations of that handle that promote people of color's beauty — how come not one person took this into account?

Obviously not intended to be malicious, the Twitter handle is still an extreme faux pas and incredibly offensive, taking its name from something that's supposed to empower people of color and using it for, well, profit. Let's hope they change it to something more appropriate in the future.
