What the Team at Banana Republic Wears to Work

Banana Republic has been around for close to three decades, but it's gone well beyond the workwear separates that made it a staple. Today, trend-focused collections sit right alongside an array of classic, HR-approved basics. We polled staffers at the San Francisco corporate office to see how the brand's fashion philosophy translates to their own closets.

Latrell Triplin, Accessories Design Manager, is wearing a Banana Republic jacket, skirt, and bracelets; and vintage shoes, fur brooches, rings, and earrings.

What’s the number one clothing item that every working woman/man should own?
A white button-up shirt or blouse. It’s a classic that’s constantly being reinvented, so there’s something for everyone — no matter what stage of life you're in.

What item in your closet you would never get rid of?
This isn’t exactly one item, but rather a theme of items: my collection of vintage coats. They're unique, made beautifully, keep me warm, and never go out of style.

Besides Banana Republic, where else you do like to shop?
I love hunting for vintage items, and mixing unique finds that nobody else has with more modern pieces.

What are your three beauty must-haves?
Skin and hair moisturizer, some shade of red lipstick, and meditation.

Describe your personal style in one sentence.
Eclectic with a bit of humor.

Jen Matic, Senior Director of Global Photography and Social Creative, is wearing a Banana Republic jacket, shirt, jeans, and necklace; Loeffler Randall shoes, a Tiffany chain bracelet, a Le Gramme silver cuff, a Louis Vuitton leather cuff, vintage and Tiffany rings, and a Rolex watch.

What item in your closet would you never get rid of?
I have these crazy Margiela cut-out boots that remind me of DIY Chinese paper lanterns. They're playful but still sophisticated, and very over the top. Or, my first soccer jersey. It's washed out tangerine yellow with white stripes on the shoulders with a number 8 on it. We were called the Foxes, and the jersey is still in very good condition. Though I can't fit in it anymore, my three-year-old is just about the right size.

Describe your personal style in one sentence.
Below 14th street peppered with a little West Coast bohemian on warmer days.

What are your three beauty must-haves?
With my travel schedule, these three are my saving graces: Dior Capture Totale Cream, By Terry Gloss, and YSL Top Secrets Flash Touch Wake-Up Eye Roller Pen.

Besides Banana Republic, where else you do like to shop?
I love boutique shopping. My New York go-to is my friend Kay Lee's shop, Otte, in the West Village. I also have an insatiable weakness for Isabel Marant, Iro, and Margiela.

Phillip Holmes, Senior Manager of Styling for Men's and Women's North America, is wearing a Banana Republic blazer, a Theory shirt, J. Crew shorts, Gucci shoes, Banana Republic sunglasses, a Swatch watch, and assorted jewelry.

Besides Banana Republic, where else you do like to shop?
I’m a Zara nut; I love being able to mix high-priced pieces with lower priced items. I also like shopping at Rag & Bone, Relove (a cool consignment shop in Russian Hill), Gant, Sandro, and Saks. I feel like I can always find a good piece at these stores.

Who’s your workday style icon?
It’s a mash-up of Nick Wooster and Tinie Tempah.

What’s the best shopping advice you’ve ever received?
Always ask about the return policy! I learned this lesson the hard way by impulse shopping.

What’s your go-to work uniform?
A pair of distressed jeans paired with a soft knit tee, tasseled loafers and a fedora. It usually comes to mind when I’m in a rush or just don’t feel like getting ready.

Tia Tiscornia, VP of Global Store Experience, is wearing a Banana Republic T-shirt, jeans, and jacket; a Nixon watch, and Joe’s shoes.

What’s your go-to work uniform?
Jeans, usually some stripes, a soft comfy woven, my favorite outerwear or blazer, and accessories that always keep me grounded and ready for anything.

What does Banana Republic do best?
Definitely outerwear. Timeless staple pieces that never go out of style.

Describe your personal style in one sentence.
Effortless and ready for anything. #motherof4ontherun

Out of everything you own, what's your favorite Banana Republic item?
My statement necklace. What I love most is that it has a vintage feel with unbelievable design details. It's a perfect pairing to my busted jeans and T-shirts.

Anne Hawkins, Associate Product Manager for Women’s Apparel and Accessories, is wearing a Banana Republic sweater, denim jacket, and sunglasses; Rag & Bone jeans, Adidas shoes, and assorted jewelry.

Describe your personal style in one sentence.
Classic, casual, and easy.

What does Banana Republic do best?
Classics with a twist: timeless pieces you can wear season after season.

What’s your go-to work uniform?
Black skinny jeans, an oversized cozy sweater or T-shirt, and sneakers or ankle boots.

What’s the best shopping advice you’ve ever received?
If you find something you like, buy a few of them! It can be hard to find perfect everyday essentials, so when you find one that works for you, stock up. You never know when your favorite styles will be discontinued.

Omar Nobil, Senior Design Director of Women's Structured Wovens, Denim and Knits, is wearing a Banana Republic blazer and shirt; A.P.C. jeans, Hermès boots, The Great Frog and Louis Vuitton Rings, a Saint Laurent scarf, a Salvatore Ferragamo belt, and Selima Optique glasses.

What does Banana Republic do best?
Across both men's and women's, Banana does a great job creating versatile tailoring. They’re easy to dress up with one of our tailored pants, or dress down with our premium denim.

What’s your favorite Banana Republic item that you own?
I own a lot of tailoring from the Men's Monogram Collection, which I love and wear all the time. However, my favorite item that I've probably worn the most over the past 10 years is a charcoal grey grandad cardigan with black leather football buttons. I wear it throughout the winter, both indoors and outdoors as a piece of outerwear over a blazer.

What’s the best shopping advice you’ve ever received?
When you find a great fitting pair of pants, buy two pairs.
