2015 was not the year of Drake. It was not the year of squads, nor DJ Khaled, nor the act of simply hanging out and turning on Netflix as a euphemism for hooking up. 2015 was the year of Prince Harry's beard, which over the course of twelve months went from barely there to large and lumbersexual, and finally, to a somehow dapper tuxedo accessory fit for a royal.

To honor the year that Prince Harry took his name quite literally, Kensington Palace released his 2015 Christmas card, which features the scruff that the world was at first confused by and has since come to love. The photo is from the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in September, the Daily Mail reports, when Prince Harry met 95-year-old pilot in the battle, Tom Neil. The only unfortunate element? It's black-and-white, and therefore fails to showcase Prince Harry's beard in all its orange glory.
