Marc Jacobs's runway shows have become notorious for their over-the-top theatricality — from celebrity-filled front rows to astounding set design. And when it came time for his Spring 2016 show during New York Fashion Week, Jacobs decided to one-up himself.
"Marc Jacobs: One Night Only!" read the marquee outside of the Ziegfeld Theater as models like Hanne Gaby Odiele, Natalie Westling, and Bella Hadid arrived for their early call time the morning of September 17 — a loud yellow-and-red tent marking the event's entrance. The show was a tribute to Jacobs's love for American cinema and what Vogue Runway describes as "a New York that's all but vanished." An all-star cast of models and celebrities like Joan Smalls and the singer Beth Ditto traipsed down a themed red carpet runway broadcasted live to the public on a giant side-street screen. Playbills were handed out, popcorn was had, and the collection took center stage in all of its cinematic glory.
