Men's New York Fashion Week Will Return This Winter

The first New York Fashion Week: Men’s just kicked off this week, and the CFDA is already prepping for next season's event. Style.com reports that NYFW: Men's has been picked up for the Fall 2016 collections, and the event is scheduled for January 28th through January 31st next year. It's the same timing as this week's event, which means it will happen right after the Paris couture shows and before the women’s shows in New York.

When the CFDA brought up the idea this winter, securing sponsorship was a big question mark. But Style.com notes that the men's event's second season pickup was thanks to its sponsors, which include Amazon Fashion, Cadillac, Shinola, Dockers, DreamWorks, and Axe (official grooming sponsor).

This week's event is drawing designers like Public School, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Billy Reid, Rag & Bone, and John Varvatos, along with celebs like Victor Cruz, Tyson Beckford, Joe Jonas, and Dwayne Wade. Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan deemed it a success, writing, "the spring 2016 collections of American designers has emerged as a fully formed extravaganza in its debut season." Jake Zeitlin, designer of Matiere, told Givhan, "There is an actual scene."

The CFDA doesn't seemed to be inclined to add another fashion week to the calendar any time soon, though. "Do I think we need another fashion week in the states that is similar to New York Fashion Week? I don’t," he told Style.com when asked about possibly adding a CFDA-approved fashion week in Los Angeles. "I think the strength of LA is really design, creativity, manufacturing, and that’s where I see the CFDA getting more involved."
