How to Style Frayed-Hem Jeans, From a Denim Expert

Welcome back to Editor's Picks, a Friday series profiling the buys our editors are obsessed with. Last week, Racked Shopping & Style Editor Nicola Fumo shared her foolproof self-manicure polish; this week our Fashion Editor at Large Rajni Jacques explains the perfect jean and heel combo.

"I wear jeans a lot; I would wear them to a wedding if I could. When I saw this pair by selvedge denim brand 3x1, a mile-long smile spread across my face. These are no ordinary jeans: they flaunt a full four inches of fray at the hem, really setting them apart. With a straight leg, button fly, and medium wash, they remind me of the 80s — very Molly Ringwald.

A pair of jeans like these deserves a special shoe to complement them. I've been wearing them with copper leather, '70s-inspired heels by Madeline Poole for Madison Harding. I love how the fringe from the jean frames the deep cutout of the platform heel. They work so well together. Yup, I'm going to say it, It's a match made in heaven."

Personal style, in 140 characters or less: Denim enthusiast with a flair for stunning heels and a well-curated red lip.

What I splurge on: Fall essentials: boots, bags, and coats. It's my favorite season and I spend money on things I know will be in my closet for a very long time.

What I save on: Jeans — I love thrifting them, especially at out-of-New York vintage stores (they're so much cheaper!). But I'm not gonna lie, if I find a pair of pricey jeans that fit me like a glove, I'll buy them, too. I can't help it.

Best piece of shopping advice I've gotten: When I started to develop my style and started shopping for myself, my mother told me not to buy a piece because it's popular, but to buy it because you know you'll wear it all the time and make it your signature.
