The Miroslava Duma Guide to Denim

Russian fashion editor Miroslava Duma has positioned herself at the forefront of the international fashion scene over the last few years. She's the founder of style and culture magazine Buro 24/7 and is well-documented by street style photographers around the globe. Miroslava is a certified member of the so-called Russian "Czarina" clique alongside fashion designer Ulyana Sergeenko and model Elena Perminova, other prominent faces that speak to the country's growing influence on the world of high fashion.

This past fashion week, Miroslava toned down her usual dolled-up look (think Valentino minidresses and Stella McCartney skirts) in favor of more casual attire — in particular, relaxed-fit jeans. Given her reputation for trendsetting, this low-key approach can only be seen as a forecast of what we all will be wearing soon enough, too. Find Miroslava's denim styling blueprint in the three looks below, and then get shopping.

Boyfriend jeans have taken over — you can found them everywhere from Rachel Comey to Urban Outfitters. If you're on the shorter side like Miroslava (she's 5'0"), finding the right fit and playing with proportions are key. She paired hers with a pinstripe blazer that cinches above the waist, making her legs appear longer. A structured handbag and rounded sunglasses polish off this laid-back look, which happens to be perfect for a casual office.

Sequined tops were a street style favorite this fall. Miroslava mixed luxury with streetwear by pairing a sparkly, mock-neck Dior top with high-waisted jeans and white Nike sneakers. Another boyfriend denim tip for the shorties out there is to master the art of cuffing. It maintains the clean lines that make this look work for day or night.

Miroslava's take on the classic blue-jeans-and-white-tee combo involves baggier denim and a slouchy shirt. Nailing this look comes down to the details: a half-tuck for a little definition, a dainty watch to balance proportions, and a no-frills bucket bag for a minimalist slick. The relaxed outfit is great for a quick lunch date with friends, or for fending off brazen street style photogs.
