Givenchy is ditching Paris for New York Fashion Week this fall, WWD reports. The fashion house will stage its Spring 2016 fashion show on September 11th in New York, to coincide with the late-summer opening of a new NYC store and a renewed focus in the American market. In addition to the New York boutique, Givenchy plans to open shops in Florida and in California, with plans for both Orange County and Beverly Hills.

Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci told WWD that the NYFW show will continue the themes that have been crucial to Givenchy's advertising lately. "It’s a very delicate day for America, and so the show is going to be a celebration of family and love," Tisci told WWD.

Beyond that, New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wonders if Givenchy will take the time to acknowledge the significance of the date at its show this fall. "In the past, few New York Fashion Week designers whose collections have been shown on the 11th have done so, and it has always felt jarring, a kind of denial," she writes.

What we know now is that the Givenchy show in New York might not look like any ordinary fashion show, since Tisci is looping in his friend, performance artist Marina Abramović. "She’s going to help me to art direct the show. It’s going to be very interesting," he said.
