What’s one fashion tip you’ve picked up while working at Details?
Pay attention to textures: cashmere, wool, silk, waxed canvas, suede, and the differences in weight and weave. I spend as much time touching a prospective purchase as I do looking at it these days.

Who’s your personal style icon?
In high school, I imprinted on Ryan Gosling's character in The Notebook and can't shake it. There are worse looks to mimic — henleys, sturdy denim, plaid coats, raggedy crewneck sweatshirts, the occasional grief-beard. I pass on newsboy caps, though.

What’s your grooming routine like?
I cover the grooming beat here, so it’s a whole thing. On a perfect day, I'll shower with Aesop Coriander Seed body wash, scrub my face with Dior Homme cleanser (with a Clarisonic), and then use Evo Gluttony volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I really believe in big hair, so then I spray on some Evo Root Booster, blowdry it like crazy, and finish off with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray.

Then comes Kiehl's Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer, and a BB cream from DTRT, which is great because it's a tinted moisturizer that's also SPF 25. Always some kind of cologne — right now I'm really into Arquiste's Anima Dulcis, which smells like incense and hot cocoa.

What fall or winter trend are you excited try?
Giant scarves. I'm pretty tame when it comes to fashion statements, but I'll risk some stares if I can swathe myself in a big cashmere blanket all winter. I saw Helen Mirren rocking an enormous Hudson Bay scarf, and she's never wrong.

You slept through your alarm clock. What’s your grab-and-go work outfit?
My black silk jumpsuit from COS. It’s a readymade look and the closest thing to a nightgown. Add a chocolate croissant from the Hearst cafe and Common Projects sneakers and I'm 30 seconds early for my 9am meeting. 

Which designers are you the most excited about at the moment?
KITH, Calle Del Mar, and Stance Socks.

What’s your shopping guilty pleasure?
Old Navy men’s linens, winter plane tickets, high thread count sheets, acrylic paint in bulk, fresh NIKE ID sneakers, unused Pure Yoga passes…to name a few.

Who’s your personal style icon?
Hedi Slimane. Besides the fact that he’s pioneering the modern glam rock at Saint Laurent, his eye for capturing youth in style really interests me. I love the timeless, slim, rock ’n’ roller look he so casually masters. And if you haven’t checked out his diary, I heavily suggest you do — it’s the world I want to live in.

Which male celebrity has the best style?
Justin Theroux really nails it. From red carpet chic to Saturday motorcycling in LA, his look is consistent but strong. My other favorite is Jamie Hince — his neck scarf game is next level. I mean, the guy is doing something right to marry Kate Moss.

What item in your closet do you love the most?
My vintage Saint Laurent black blazer. I picked it up in a consignment store in the East Village and I plan on wearing it until I’m dead (because if I can’t fit into it I’d rather die).

What’s one investment piece that's always worth splurging on?
A good leather jacket. You can’t beat good leather, and a bad-ass look that will make you tough for a lifetime. Spend big on a classic cut that’s quality made. You won’t regret it.

Who’s your personal style icon?
James Baldwin. He was an incredibly stylish man, and wore his clothes with this insouciance a lot of guys strive for but never really nail. People paid more attention to what he said than to what he put on his back — and they should have — but I like to think his style was a big part of how he talked to the world.

You slept through your alarm clock. What’s your grab-and-go work outfit?
A white or blue oxford cloth shirt, a pair of jeans, and either slip-on sneakers or brogues. When the weather calls for it, I'll also pull on a cashmere crewneck and a wool topcoat. I try not to carry a bag, but when I have stuff to lug around it all goes into a black Jack Spade tote.

What’s one fashion tip you’ve picked up while working at Details?
Fit really is everything. We talk about it a lot here, both on the site and in the pages of the magazine. It's practically tattooed onto every new hire their first day.

How has your style changed since you started working at Details?
It's gotten a lot simpler. When you spend your day trying to help other people make decisions about what they're going to wear, the last thing you want to do is waste time dressing yourself. Some days half the staff will show up wearing solid navy head-to-toe, and I think it's partially because we all want to avoid decision fatigue.
