WWD has heard whispers that Alexander Wang, one of fashion's most famous young designers, may be stepping out of his role as creative director of Balenciaga. Spokeswomen for the designer and Balenciaga's parent company Kering would only say that discussions are underway between Wang and Balenciaga about Wang's contract renewal. Wang is apparently still under contract and slated for Balenciaga's Paris Fashion Week collection this fall.

But WWD's sources are saying that Wang is looking for an investor for his own brand, and that he may feel like it's too much to split his time between the two brands. Wang took over for Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga in December 2012. WWD estimates that Balenciaga is profitable, and the fashion house's CEO Isabelle Guichot touted double-digit growth for the brand last March.
