Louis Vuitton Discontinued Those Colorful Murakami Monogram Bags

It's the end of the era for Louis Vuitton's Takashi Murakami bags, that colorful monogram print that was ubiquitous in the early 2000s. WWD reports that an LV store associate confirmed that the Murakami-designed Multicolore monogram is "leaving stores at the end of July, forever." Meanwhile, Louis Vuitton press representatives wouldn't comment on the line being discontinued, and would only say the brand prefers to "look forward." 

The Multicolore monogram made its first appearance at Marc Jacobs's spring 2003 show for Louis Vuitton. It became an It bag and celebrity favorite, to the extent that it was a major plot point on the Jessica Simpson-Nick Lachey reality vehicle Newlyweds. Besides that, the bag made constant appearances in paparazzi photos with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Knockoffs were everywhere.

Now 12 years later, the Multicolore monogram collection is about to be officially over. As Vogue UK notes, current Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière seems to be focused on the brand's classic print, featured in bags that look like miniature trunks or a blown-up version of the Louis Vuitton classic monogram.
