Nike has (finally) released a collection of women's basketball apparel that is actually designed by women for female athletes. Nike worked with a handful of prominent female basketball players, including Elena Delle Donne, Skylar Diggins, Chiney Ogwumike and Sue Bird, who all play for various WNBA teams, as well as the University of Connecticut's women's basketball team to make sure it got everything just right.
With the help of these female athletes, Nike produced women's apparel they hope will provide a seamless fit and feel. For the time being, the collection includes only four pieces: a tailored mesh hoodie, tapered pants, lightweight and breathable shorts, and a contoured tanktop that looks to provide added mobility.
"We did a lot of focus groups with both high school and professional basketball players from across the country to make sure we were creating the right styles and incorporating the wants and needs for the female athlete," Chris Burke, Nike Basketball's global apparel director, said in a statement.
