Back to the Future Self-Drying Jackets Are Now on Kickstarter

The fashion industry isn't done scraping the Back to the Future franchise for inspiration. Nike recently unveiled self-lacing shoes and "hoverboards" were banned just as quickly as they surged in popularity. Now, a start-up on Kickstarter wants to take the self-drying jacket from Marty McFly's 2015 in Back to the Future II and make it a reality in our 2016. The jacket from Falyon is basically an exact replica of the jacket from the movie, with the same red body, black sleeves, and four chest pockets.

The SDJ-01, which stands for Self Drying Jacket, is said to work similarly to the jacket in the movie with three vents in the right, left, and center of the jacket's rear. The Kickstarter claims that the jacket can dry itself in only a minute with "noticeable drying effects" after 30 seconds. The founders also say that you can use the air to dry yourself off, similar to how you would use a hair dryer.

"We went through many frustrating failures and many ruined jackets," Aaron Coleman, one of the brand's founders, tells Mashable. "We weren't sure if the tech existed to bring these jackets to life." He added: "The SDJ-01, like other wearable tech, is meant to solve a problem and make our lives easier. In the future, we as consumers need to ask: What can our clothes do for us?"

The jacket is powered by rechargeable batteries that can run for 30 minutes and can be juiced up with a cord included with the jacket. The SDJ-01 has currently raised over $5,000 towards it $12,000 goal. Funding ends December 28, 2015 and jackets will ship by April 2016.
