Nicki Minaj performed three songs on Good Morning America's New York City stage, also making time to discuss the Twitter beef that consumed the week in celebrity social media. Minaj told Lara Spencer that she and Taylor Swift actually spoke on the phone yesterday, where the "Shake It Off" singer apologized in addition to her remorseful tweet. The rapper continued:
She was super, super sweet, and she apologized. She said "Look, I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying but now I get it," so we're all good.
Nicki brought the stats to light, admitting that "Anaconda" did have "a huge cultural impact," and broke the Vevo record. When the video was overlooked for MTV's Video of the Year, "there just seemed to be a little funny business going on." She feels that similar records held by more pop-focused artists would result in more nominations, but it's important that we show young women "both images."
Nicki goes on, "We can't have only one type of body being glorified in the media, because it makes girls even more insecure than we already are." On a lighter note, the two have made up and already shifted their relationship to one that includes "cracking up laughing on the phone." And yes, "it's over, you guys."
