More Layoffs Feared at Allure

Staffers at Allure are on edge as the beauty magazine continues to shake up its masthead. New editor-in-chief Michelle Lee replaced Allure's founding EIC Linda Wells in November, and WWD has additional details on how that exactly went down. Alexandra Steigrad writes:

On Nov. 11, a source said founding editor in chief Linda Wells, who was informed by Condé Nast that she had been let go, was told to leave the building so that her replacement could be introduced to the magazine’s staff by artistic director Anna Wintour. Before leaving, Wells delivered an emotional goodbye to her staff, who would later that day meet their new editor, Michelle Lee.

What an exit after 24 years on the job. The newest development WWD reports is that the contracts of the majority of Allure's approximately 15 contributors weren't renewed for next year. A few were supposedly offered the option to freelance at the magazine.

While those on staff at Allure worry about job security and impending layoffs, their boss Lee is interviewing new candidates. "The display has left some employees with a sense of unease that the job applicants could be their replacements," Steigrad writes.
