I Promise a Sleeveless Jacket Isn't Insane

Welcome back to Editor's Picks, a Friday series profiling the buys our editors are obsessed with. Last week, Racked editor in chief Leslie Price shared the jumpsuit she swears is as comfortable as sweatpants; today, our shopping and style editor makes the case for the sleeveless jacket.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

"Despite constantly having an eye on trends — or maybe because of it — I'm actually really slow to add new silhouettes to my wardrobe. I have a vague idea of what works for my body (closing in on three decades of trial and error) and I know that culottes will do me no favors and overalls are an adorable, hilarious no.

For whatever reason, I have embraced the seemingly superfluous sleeveless jacket with abandon, stocking up on the style in various lengths. It's added a sleek new layer — literally — to my enduring mini skirt/dress silhouette and, surprisingly, is weather-appropriate here in New York quite often. I picked one up early in spring and wore it all the time; when I stopped by the AYR showroom in May and spied this camel style the brand had coming out for fall I knew it'd be my early autumn go-to. I love the strong lines of this jacket, balanced with an elegant shawl collar. The color is universally complexion-flattering (trust) and, of course, it can be layered up or down as temperatures change."

Home town: Milwaukee, WI! I hate when people think that means I grew up with cows. There were no cows.

Best vacation of all time: Visiting my BFF in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she lived for a few years. Now she's in Mexico City, which is first in line for my 2016 vacation days.

On my playlist right now: The aughts are back and I'm not mad at it, not even a little bit. Three 6 Mafia "Stay Fly" (2010), Yung Joc "It's Goin' Down" (2006), and Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak (2008), in full, is giving me all kinds of feelings.

Fall beverage of choice: Some kind of souped up non-dairy hot chocolate (I can't help it if my digestive tract is bougie).
