Caitlyn Jenner Names Laverne Cox as One of Her Role Models

Vanity Fair released more details from its cover shoot and story with Caitlyn Jenner this morning, providing more insight into Jenner's life before she went public with her new identity.

"I have nothing left to hide," Jenner told Vanity Fair writer Buzz Bissinger. "I am kind of a free person, a free soul. [Up] to this point I would wear, you know, Bruce would wear, you know, sweatshirts with hoods on them so paparazzi can't get pictures and all that kind of crap, and I didn't want them to see if my fingernails were polished or, you know, on and on and on. It was just hell."

In a second behind-the-scenes video of the shoot, Jenner explains the influence that role models including Laverne Cox and Carmen Carerra have had on her life. "Back in the eighties, I was alone," Jenner says. "And I'm kind of following in their footsteps. They made it easier for me. And I hope, with my honesty, I can make it easier for somebody else down the line."
