The bomber jacket is classic yet rugged, and amazingly versatile, so it's no surprise that the style has gone from the streetwear scene to all over high-fashion runways. For fall, Saint Laurent tapped the trend by pairing a fatigue green version with ripped fishnets and a leather miniskirt. Giambattista Valli and Stella McCartney took a more feminine approach for their resort and fall collections, respectively, by experimenting with floral prints and appliqués, while Balenciaga went the plush route for pre-fall in mink and shearling.
Originally developed for pilots during World War II, bombers (or flight jackets) are typically made of a heavy-weight nylon or polyester with banded cuffs and zip-fronts.
