Accordion pleats, the narrow folds Issey Miyake popularized with his 1993 line Pleats Please, experienced a revival this fall. Now in an array of new lengths — from the ankle-grazing to the day-appropriate midi style — pleated skirts have become fun ways to add texture and movement to your wardrobe.
If you're looking for ways to incorporate pleats without seeming dated, look no further than the pre-fall and fall 2015 lookbooks and runways. For their pre-fall lookbook, the designers at Proenza Schouler paired black-and-white striped pleats with checkered blouses; on the runway, Marc Jacobs took a more transitional route with leather renditions, perfect for dressing up or down. For a more daring take on the trend, look to Loewe's fall 2015 runway, where metallic pleats in shimmering silver and blue hues were paired with brown knee-high boots and slouchy mock-neck tops.
