Wrap your head about this one: journalist, author, and feminist icon Gloria Steinem linked up with Kate Spade for a cameo appearance in the brand's latest episode of its Anna Kendrick video series. In the video, which was filmed in NYC's famous Russian Tea Room, Steinem wears Kate Spade's $170 Makenzie sunglasses and carries the brand's $598 Cloverdale Drive Tolland purse. As Harper's Bazaar notes, Steinem is the latest literary heroine to appear in a fashion campaign, following the path of Joan Didion for Céline.

You have to wait through a few minutes of Anna Kendrick chatting with her little gnome Kate Spade purse before Steinem makes her appearance, though. The video's "dining alone" theme goes along with another interview Steinem filmed with Kate Spade about the power of going out to dinner with just a book for company. "When I started out, you couldn’t go into a certain number of hotels alone if you were a female. You couldn’t be seated alone. There was something scandalous about it," Steinem said in the video interview for Kate Spade. "Finally if you were seated alone it was by the kitchen. So it’s actually a civil right to dine alone."
