It's Official: Style.com Now Redirects to Vogue

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's the end of an era. As of last night, Style.com — fashion's resource for runway photos and reviews since 1999 — redirects to Vogue Runway (vogue.com/fashion-shows, to be precise).

The big move was announced in April following restructuring late last year that saw Style.com move from Fairchild Fashion Media — its parent company since 2010 — back to its origins at Condé Nast. The site was originally launched as a digital destination for Vogue and W, before they launched their own home pages, and was part of an early wave of web properties for the publisher. The prevailing notion at the time was that a website would devalue a brand like Vogue, and therefore the company launched a completely separate brand for web. Obviously, things have changed since then.

Style.com's impressive archives, dating back to fall 1991, are intact on Vogue Runway, with near-identical navigation. One excellent addition is a color-coded calendar, breaking down each season by fashion week city (New York, London, et al.) and each day by fashion show name, time, even address.

Style.com will live a second life as Condé Nast's e-commerce destination. "In some ways [Style.com] duplicated and overlapped the vision of Vogue.com in the US," Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive told Business of Fashion. "It was decided that this was really a great brand name for what we want to do with e-commerce." The shopping site will hit the UK this fall and roll out to the US next year, stocking 100 to 200 brands across luxury fashion, beauty, tech, and other categories.

As for what to expect for the spring 2016 shows, which kick off in New York next week, executive editor Nicole Phelps promises more reviewers, opinion pieces, and news content along with the regular stream of video interviews, instant runway photos, and show livestreams. Not in attendance for the grand Vogue Runways reveal are three Style.com heavy hitters: former editor in chief Dirk Standen, who left for a role as W's digital creative director; former editor at large Tim Blanks, now holding the same title at Business of Fashion; and street style photographer Tommy Ton, who has not yet announced his next project.
