ClassPass Reveals 2015’s Most Popular Workout Trends

Monthly boutique fitness membership service ClassPass crunched the numbers on the thousands of classes attended in 2015 by its members in more than 30 cities worldwide. The result is both a snapshot of the year that was in fitness, and perhaps some interesting factoids for ClassPass users who are trying to book popular classes. Here are a few fascinating 2015 workout trends based off of the data ClassPass accumulated by use on its platform:

Most popular workout trends of 2015 for ClassPass users: Strength training was number one, followed by yoga and cycling.

Most popular day to work out: Tuesday was the day of the week all ClassPass users felt the most motivated to book classes.

Peak time for class bookings: 10:00am on weekends and 6:30pm on weekdays.

Most popular season to work out: You guessed it, winter 2015 or right after New Year's for the resolutions crowd.

Most active day of the year: January 13th.

Least booked days of the year: January 1st and July 4th.

Most popular workouts by region: ClassPass's index showed that the East Coast was all about cycling studios, while the Southeast went for barre and those in the Midwest booked strength training and yoga classes. On the West Coast, ClassPass users trended toward Pilates and strength training. The Southwest also went for Pilates as well as yoga.

Amount of time ClassPass users worked out: That's 594,036,380 minutes of class time booked, or 9,900,606 hours — that's equivalent to 1130.2 YEARS.

Average number of new classes ClassPass users tried in 2015: 15 new classes.

What workout will boom next year: ClassPass predicts 2016 will be all about rowing. That's because rowing-based strength classes had the greatest month-over-month growth of sign-ups since August through the end of 2015.
