In August, New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wondered in an essay when fashion would "discover" Ronda Rousey, the incredibly successful UFC fighter. Fashion's one of Rousey's many interests and she told the Times in a profile this month that she's working with a stylist and has a wish list of brands she would like to work with, including Helmut Lang and Stuart Weitzman.

Now, Self magazine just revealed that Rousey is the cover star for the November issue. Jason Kibbler shot Rousey's Self spread, which shows the athlete posing in the desert. The artistic photos go along with Self's newish high-end fashion focus under EIC Joyce Chang and artistic director Anna Wintour.

Rousey wears brands like Prabal Gurung and Proenza Schouler in the editorial, and for the cover story she chats with comedian Chelsea Peretti about her work ethic and her career goals. "I want my name to be mentioned along with Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali," she said. "And I don’t want the word woman to be in front of champion."

She also told Self: "I want to see the standards that women hold themselves to change. In terms of looks, I feel like we’re given an impossible standard to live up to. It should be more diverse and show that every single woman can attain an attractive body just by being as healthy as possible. I don’t think that’s an impossible goal." The magazine is out on newsstands October 27th. Update: Ronda Rousey's cutout swimsuit on the cover of Self is by OYE Swimwear.
