The Day/Night Bag Duo Saving My Fashion Week

Welcome back to Editor's Picks, a Friday series profiling the buys our editors are obsessed with. Last week, Racked fashion assistant Nia Porter shared the top that's essential to her end-of-summer wardrobe; this week our engagement editor Danielle Odiamar lets us in on the day/night bag duo that's getting her through Fashion Week.

Racked has affiliate partnerships, which do not influence editorial content, though we may earn commissions for products purchased via affiliate links. We also occasionally accept products for research and reviewing purposes. See our ethics policy here.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

"It’s officially New York Fashion Week and as Racked’s engagement editor I have my hands full taking Snaps, 'grams, and firing off tweets. This cuddle-worthy backpack from Loeffler Randall is the perfect hands-free accessory for racing between shows and navigating chaotic backstages. I like that it’s compact and lightweight, but big enough to fit my two cell phones (#socialmediaproblems) and a few backup chargers.

It’s also just large enough to fit my favorite carryall clutch, a treasured score from the Gary Baseman x Coach collaboration. I keep all my personal essentials in there, like my Madewell wallet and my arsenal of MAC lipsticks. During the day, it lives in my mini backpack, and for night acts as my party bag. Plus, I really love that they both look like little monsters — my ideal pair."

What I splurge on: Handbags. I love having several options to dress an outfit up or down and easily switch up my look each day. Bags are your wardrobe's most practical pieces — they hold all your valuables, so quality is just as important as style.

What I save on: Summer clothing. I tend to use the same six outfits on rotation during the warmer months. It gets very hot and humid in New York, so I make sure everything I buy is cheap enough to not care about sweat stains.

Best piece of shopping advice I've gotten: I love what Nicolette Mason wrote in a blog post titled Flirting Outside the Comfort Zone: "It's been a big boost for my self-esteem to walk out in something that is so outside of my comfort zone and somehow survive." It's a great reminder to try different styles, experiment, and have fun while you shop. Don't beat yourself up if this piece or that look doesn't work out. You'll survive.
