Pinterest is going transparent with its hiring goals for 2016. In a blog post, co-founder and chief creative officer Evan Sharp talks about the lack of diversity in the tech industry and reveals Pinterest's plan to change up their hiring practices. That include bringing on many more female engineers: next year, Pinterest wants to increase hiring rates for full-time engineering roles to 30% female.

The company wants to increase their hiring rates for full-time engineers to 8% underrepresented ethnic backgrounds, and 12% underrepresented ethnic backgrounds for non-engineering positions. For every open leadership position, Pinterest plans to institute a rule that at least one person from an underrepresented background and one female candidate is interviewed.

Pinterest is going to achieve these goals through initiatives like expanded university recruiting, internship programs, and setting up training and mentoring sessions. "We’re holding ourselves accountable to make meaningful changes to how we approach diversity at Pinterest," Sharp writes. "We’ll also be sharing what’s working and what isn’t as we go, so hopefully other companies can learn along with us. Over time, we hope to help build an industry that is truly diverse, and by extension more inclusive, creative and effective."
