In case you thought the '70s style influences of the past couple of seasons were waning, nearly everyone on the New York Fashion Week circuit is out here, in their cropped flares, to prove you wrong. The trend has staying power — and that's not a bad thing.
Last year, The Row, Stella McCartney, and Mary Katrantzou served up the cropped flare in a variety of shapes and textures for pre-fall and fall collections, and now, the trend has clearly picked up speed among showgoers at NYFW. To winterize the look, some editors are pairing the pants with boots high enough to cover any skin exposed in the crop, while others are bravely pairing with flats and going with it.
The denim version of the cropped flare is one of its most popular iterations, but it's hardly the only way to make this look work. Above, we rounded up eight wildly different options that fall into the cropped flare category, from patterned velvet trousers at Zara (on sale for $8!) to super-flared black Ellery pants at Farfetch that come complete with side slits up to the knee.
