Cult favorite brand Mansur Gavriel has slowly been adding to its brand and bringing its signature modern and minimalist look to an expanded range of products. Last New York Fashion week, the brand introduced its first line of shoes to go with its beloved bags. This time around, Mansur Gavriel is beefing up the handbag and shoe styles it offers.
There was more newness to be found in the brand's still-young shoe line. There were five new shoe styles, compared to just two new bag designs.
The new styles include both a flat and Venetian (heeled) loafer, a pointy heel, backless heels, and a shearling-lined ankle boot. None of these are revolutionary, but hopefully they won't inspire the same claims of copying that the first line incited.
The two new bags to feast your eyes on are named the Sun and the Elegant. The Sun's design is strongly reminiscent of Hermés's iconic Birkin bag. The Sun features a wide bottom and a narrow top, a bow where the Birkin's lock and key would be, and a top handle. The bag comes in three different sizes from mini to large.
Meanwhile, the Elegant features a clasp, as well as a handle, on top and comes in a square shape.
All the new styles come in a range of colors, from soft pastels to bold reds and yellows to the more traditional black and navy.
The brand has been slowly ramping up the products its offered and is choosing measured incremental growth over making too much of a good thing. Fashionista reports that there are now 18 Mansur Gavriel employees but the design and production is still solely handled by its two founders Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel. However, once they find the right partner, a ready-to-wear line will follow.
