It may be 2016, but retail landscape is looking a lot more like the 1990s, '80s, and '70s, what with all the retro fashion options proliferating — there's even a re-release of the Juicy Couture tracksuit in the works.
The latest throwback trend to start popping up on celebs, though, is the graphic tee. Gigi Hadid wears them all the time, including tie-dye ones that look straight out of the '90s; Kendall Jenner pulls hers out when she’s being matchy-matchy with Gigi in. Olivia Culpo wore a Power Rangers tee under a leather jacket a few weeks ago, and then there's Kim Kardashian sporting a Mickey Mouse version for her recent editorial spread in Vogue Spain.
While we know the graphic tee never really went away completely, there haven't been many great options in the last decade aside from actual vintage, unless you want to resort to the cheesy, faux-vintage concert tees hawked by sites like Urban Outfitters.
The t-shirt's new favor on the celeb scene can probably be credited to Vetements' vintage-y DHL tee and '90s-esque, extra-long sleeve t-shirts; a subsequent focus on stylish tour merch — like Kanye’s The Life of Pablo T-shirts and sweats and Justin Biebers’ Vetements-inspired versions — didn't hurt either.
Now plenty of other designers, from Gucci’s Alessandro Michele to Rihanna-approved Adam Selman, have embraced the trend as well, providing a welcome variety of graphic tees for the modern girl to choose from.
