Oscars 2016 Dress Predictions!

While many celebrities get paid ridiculous amounts of money to wear a dress by a specific designer, that look isn't always one that previously paraded down the runway at a recent fashion week. Most of the time, Oscar nominees get to wear something custom that alludes to trends and materials in line with a designer's collection.

In this year's round of Oscar gown predictions, there are two Dior contracts and a spoiler alert by Kate Winslet herself, tipping us off as to who's wearing what. Read on to see what we're hoping lands on the Academy Awards red carpet this Sunday.

Jennifer Lawrence

Her contract permits Dior and Dior only on the red carpet, so when it comes to the Joy star's dress, the only mystery is "which one?" Former Dior creative director Raf Simons departed the brand since the last time Jennifer Lawrence was at the Oscars (in 2014, and yes, in Dior). This means that the custom design will be the creation of Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux instead. We're thinking it'll riff off of these two pieces from Dior's couture 2016 show. This particular red is often J.Law's color, and the structural helix on the midi-length dress is perfect for the Oscars.

Kate Winslet

This Oscars OG knows the drill. Winslet has been attending the show since she was nominated for her supporting role in Sense and Sensibility in 1996 (this was a pre-Titanic world, people). She recently told E! Online that Ralph Lauren is making something especially for her, noting that, "it's lovely."

The look will most likely be zipper-less as Winslet also said, "I just don't want to have any zips that break. That's my whole thing, zips. I have a zip fear." She does love a plunging neckline, or anything that accentuates her bust. Winslet's Ralph Lauren dress will not only touch the ground, but, hopefully, boast a glorious train.

Lady Gaga

The "Best Original Song" nominee previously pledged allegiance to Donatella Versace, but we believe Lady Gaga has two other designers on her Oscars radar: Brandon Maxwell and Marc Jacobs. She sat front row at Brandon Maxwell's New York Fashion Week show, and she walked in Marc Jacobs's. No matter who she wears, we know Lady Gaga will be over the top — just the way we like it.

Charlize Theron

The Mad Max: Fury Road actress is also part of the Dior club. In case you haven't read a magazine in a few years, Theron fronts the French brand's J'Adore fragrance, which somewhat ties her up in the red carpet gown department. While we doubt Charlize will wear black to the Oscars, the above silhouette from Dior's 2016 couture show is a top contender.

Cate Blanchett

As a presenter in 2015, Blanchett wore an all black Maison Margiela dress designed by John Galliano exclusively for her. The year before that when she was nominated for her role in Blue Jasmine, and therefore opted for an extremely expensive Armani Prive princess gown. As a lover of old Hollywood glamour, it seems likely that she'd wear an intricate couture piece. Whatever she wears, she'll most likely have her hair swept to the side to complete the look.

Alicia Vikander

Alicia Vikander is on a Louis Vuitton streak, but she's not just wearing any LV logo. The Danish Girl actress has recently walked red carpets in a sequin sheath, an embellished leather gown, and a white belted number, all by the French fashion house. She even trekked to Palm Springs, California in early May for Louis Vuitton's cruise 2016 show. So, which one? We're thinking she'll go with something liquid metallic, similar to what Nicolas Ghesquière paraded down the spring runway.

Rachel McAdams

The Notebook actress hasn't attended the Oscars since 2010, which makes her a tricky one to predict. We're guessing she'll go with Michael Kors or Valentino. Why? McAdams is a regular girl who likes a gown in the way a regular girl would. She stumped us, but here is our stab at her potential look. If she goes with Valentino, it'll be a ladylike Grecian look. If she decides on Kors, it'll be edgier, like a chain link dress that hits the floor, or the leftmost peekaboo gown that shows some skin.

Rooney Mara

We're putting $100 on Rooney Mara wearing something lengthy and Givenchy  — another $100 that it’s see-through and something that no one else would attempt to pull off. Sheer or not, it'll be absolutely beautiful and worn with the Carol actress's signature red lip. As a second option, she might wear Alexander McQueen. If so, the look will be at the top of ours, and many other's, best dressed lists.

Brie Larson

The Room actress's road to the Oscars red carpet has been one loaded with accessories, Anthopologie-esque looks, and one incredible Calvin Klein dress. We think that the first-time nominee is going to wear something sleek and sexy, by either Gucci or Calvin Klein. If her stylist Cristina Ehrlich decides to put her client in the Gucci option, she'll probably remove the tiered shift.

Lupita Nyong'o

Anyone who has seen Lupita on a red carpet knows that she loves a good twirl. The Star Wars actress's tendency for spinning has led us to believe that she'll show up in one of these dramatic Giambattista Valli numbers. And let's be honest: she's a red carpet killer.

Saoirse Ronan

We're hoping we're right when we say she's wearing Burberry, because it would be a perfect fit for Saoirise. As a first-time nominee, the Brooklyn actress has not fully formed her style, leaving more room for mystery and excitement.
