Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing must have gotten a hang of designing for children after supplying North West with custom pieces. WWD reports that Balmain is launching its own children's line, for kids with a sizable allowance.
The collection will be produced by the same in-house team that works on Balmain's mainline pieces — compared to most companies that farm out work on kid's clothes to licensees, WWD notes.
And the big Balmain name and production value comes with a price tag. An embroidered black dress will be the most expensive item in the collection with a hefty $5,950 price tag. Even a sleeveless patterned T-shirt will set buyers back $205.
"These are the same looks that, over the years, moms and dads have repeatedly pleaded with me to produce for their kids," Rousteing tells WWD.
Unsurprisingly, Rousteing tells Vogue that North West was a big inspiration. "I think I first thought about designing kidswear when I dressed North," he says. "I had a conversation with Kim, and that was the beginning of how I really understood that the Balmain universe can also belong to kids."
The collection launches in June of this year, so start saving up now, kiddos.
