Beth Ditto's wardrobe includes custom pieces by designers like Marc Jacobs, but that doesn't mean she wasn't frustrated with the state of plus-size shopping.
The Gossip singer's launching her first collection today for US sizes 14 to 28, and she hopes her line will be "something beyond the uber-cheap, disposable fast-fashion that’s pushed on us."
Ditto writes on her site:
Later I was lucky enough to be dressed by designers for the red carpet, but the hijinks continued: a tablecloth made into a dress at a Rolling Stone performance, a Westwood dress worn upside down. Stylists bringing nothing but sheets to drape me in, designers sending oversize pieces meant for thin people with armholes sized for a zero. Where are the fashionable clothes for fat girls that aren’t designer one-offs? Where are the subtle and chic wardrobe staples, where are the crazy statement pieces?Ditto's first design efforts include $345 silk dresses in op-art prints, hand-embroidered vintage sourced $245 denim jackets, and $395 lamé black jumpsuits, all sewn in New York City.
