Grammys 2016 Live Stream: How to Watch Online

Music's most prestigious awards show is going down this evening. While it might not be as prone to mishaps as its August counterpart, the VMAs, the Grammys are best known for legendary performances (last year Kanye brought out Rihanna and Paul McCartney for "FourFiveSeconds") and some of the meme-able fashion choices of the year (remember Pharrell's Vivienne Westwood hat, or that time Lady Gaga showed up inside a literal egg?).

This year, all eyes will be on the artists nominated for the most awards. In the top slot is Kendrick Lamar, who leads with 11 nominations for To Pimp a Butterfly. Next up, it's Taylor Swift with 1989 (though it technically came out in 2014, it's within this year's eligibility). Swift is tied with The Weeknd for seven nominations apiece.

It's precisely because of the strange Grammys schedule, however, that some of 2015's most talked-about songs and artists aren't nominated this year. So don't panic over the absence of "Hotline Bling" or Adele; chances are they'll be sufficiently honored at next year's awards.

Update: Rihanna isn't performing tonight, TMZ reports. She had to cancel due to bronchitis.

The Nominees

In the Record of the Year category, Taylor, Kendrick, and The Weeknd will face off against Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," and D'Angelo's "Really Love." For album of the year, the same three top-nominated artists will square off with works from Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton.

In the Best New Artist category, it's Meghan Trainor against Tori Kelly, Sam Hunt, James Bay, and Courtney Barnett.

Just because "Hotline Bling" isn't there, however, doesn't mean Drake isn't. He's up against J. Cole, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, and Nicki Minaj for Best Rap Album. Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky, The Dead Weather, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and Pharrell Williams are all nominated in the Best Music Video category.

The Performers

Nominees aside, the performers are the real reason to watch this year's Grammys. All of 2015's most talked-about artists will take the stage, including Adele, Kendrick, The Weeknd, and Rihanna. Taylor Swift will reportedly open the show.

Other performances during the show include Justin Bieber, Diplo, and Skrillex with "Where Are Ü Now," the cast of Hamilton, Ellie Goulding, Johnny Depp, Pitbull, Robin Thicke, Carrie Underwood, and Lady Gaga, who will pay tribute to the late David Bowie.

In honor of the 2016 MusicCares Person of the Year, Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, John Legend, and Luke Bryan will perform a "musical journey" through the career of Lionel Richie.
