Iyasare, Sho Kamio's O Chame Revamp, Nears in Berkeley

A month or so back, acclaimed Yoshi's chef Shotaro Kamio took the reins at the former O Chame in Berkeley, and he's chosen a name for the forthcoming Japanese restaurant. Inside Scoop reports that the new spot will be called Iyasare, which translates as "be healed."

The menu will follow the cuisine of Kamio's native Tohoku region, where simple, rustic flavors reign: fresh seafood, local vegetables and Japanese-style charcuterie will all be featured, along with casual lunch options of daily teishoku and bento boxes for takeout. Kamio's dinner offering will also focus on authentic, hearty fare, with nabemono and tabletop binchotan charcoal grilling, as well as nigiri sushi. Oakland restaurant whiz James Syhabout (Commis, Hawker Fare) is a partner in the business, though the menu is entirely Kamio's. Iyasare is targeting an early October opening, so stay tuned for updates.
