Fans of popular caterer Venga Paella have reason to rejoice: chef-owner Eduardo Balaguer has opened a new brick-and-mortar outpost in Oakland. With experience earned from ten years in the catering game, Balaguer is in the kitchen offering an expanded menu of tapas, Spanish wines and (of course) traditional paella, the recipe for which is inspired by his family's restaurant in Valencia, Spain.

Tapas on offer include tortilla española, stuffed piquillo peppers and gambas al ajillo, and the restaurant will serve a streamlined menu of three paella options: paella tradicional with prawns, calamari, mussels, clams and pork chorizo, paella de arroz negro with black squid ink and shellfish, and paella vegetariana with mixed vegetables. (See the full menu here.)

Balaguer is also offering a small list of mostly Spanish wines, plus sangria, Fentiman's craft sodas, and local draft brews from Drake's and Linden Street. The 49-seat space is designed to be warm and inviting, with a reclaimed redwood bar, Spanish Revolution themed posters and custom-made Jenga sets.

Venga Paella will serve lunch Monday through Friday from 10:30am-2:30pm, with dinner service on Fridays until 9pm. Look out for special pricing at the restaurant's happy hour, which lasts from 4-6pm daily.
