Dunkin' Donuts Is Coming to the Bay Area

As much as the Bay Area charms with its culinary offerings, it's hard to replace a "light and sweet" coffee and a Boston Kreme donut with anything from Four Barrel or Dynamo, as anyone who's lived within spitting distance of a Dunkin' Donuts should know. Now we're getting our chance with the chain whose ubiquity in Boston is only paralleled by Starbucks' in Seattle. As NBC Bay Area reports, Dunkin' Donuts is finally making it to the Northern California market, announcing today that they plan to open 80 stores in the next 5-6 years. While they're still in the process of recruiting franchisees, they eventually aim to open 1,000 stores in California as a whole, finally justifying that whole "America Runs on Dunkin'" campaign.

Dunkin' hopes for the Bay were previously dashed when the chain announced last summer that its first salvo into the West Coast market would be SoCal, much to the chagrin of many locals. Now, everyone can celebrate the arrival of Dunkin' to the area, though the matter of which town will have the honor of serving Northern California's very first Coolatta is still TBD. The chain is in aggressive expansion mode in general, planning to open at least 800 new locations around the globe in 2014 alone.
