Kronnerburger Sets Opening Date, Plus More Details

It's been a long nine months since Kronnerburger and its delicious burgers left Bruno's, but it looks like Chris Kronner is finally nearing the end of the tunnel on his Oakland brick-and-mortar, which will be housed in the former J's Mexican-American space in Piedmont. He told Inside Scoop that he's currently looking at an opening date of mid-October, after which he plans to serve both his classic burgers and fries as well as some newer options like wood-grilled meat and vegetables and a raw bar. He's also looking to do some in-house butchery and dry-aging. The restaurant will stay open until midnight on weekends, and it'll have a full bar, but it won't be very big: the dining room is only about 600 square feet (the space is a former train depot).

If you want to catch Kronner in the meantime, he's still appearing at Grand Lake wine bar Ordinaire for his Thursday and Friday Bistro Ordinaire pop-ups (just don't expect burgers—last week's menu had dishes like confit quail with corn custard and rabbit with new potatoes). He's also catering Umami Mart's two-year anniversary bash, to be held in Old Oakland tonight. Bistro Ordinaire is only going through the end of August, at which point he'll turn his attention to the new restaurant.
