Though Salsipuedes is still a ways off, Jay Porter's second undertaking, the casual The Half Orange, opened its doors for lunch in Fruitvale last week.

Housed in the 800-square-foot former Taco Grill space, The Half Orange's offering follows the sausage and beer ethos of The Linkery, Porter's previous spot in SoCal. The menu focuses on grass-fed burgers, sausages made from Niman Ranch pork, and and other hot sandwiches, plus dishes like Ensenada-style beef tongue, salchipapas (fries, housemade sausage and chorizo, kimchi) and sides like beer-battered cheese curds. (Here's their full menu).

Their liquor license has yet to clear, but once it does, The Half Orange will offer West Coast-sourced beer and natural wines. For now, they've got iced tea, Mexican Coke, and housemade kombucha to wash it all down.

Though they plan to open for dinner this week, the opening hours are currently Monday-Friday, 11:30am to 2pm. Once the beer starts flowing, the plan to open on the weekends as well.
