It's carnival season all over the world, and Bay Area partiers are ready to celebrate Fat Tuesday. We've rounded up 17 spots where you can laissez les bon temps rouler, with brass bands, samba dancers and way, way too many cocktails. And since Lent is right around the corner, it's a good idea to get your glutton on with all the New Orleans classics like gumbo, jambalaya, king cakes and hurricane cocktails before the party's over.

Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen

Angeline's is selling whole king cakes (available for purchase by calling a day ahead, up until the day before Mardi Gras), as well as offering them by the slice on Fat Tuesday. They'll also have fried gator with chipotle aioli, shrimp and grits and a chocolate-bacon pot du creme starting Friday, February 13 through Fat Tuesday.

Arizmendi Bakery

All the Arizmendi locations are offering king cakes for pickup on February 15, 16, and 17; they're baked fresh daily, coming out of the oven around noon. Call in advance and they'll set one aside for you.

Bergerac

Bergerac is throwing down for Fat Tuesday, offering drink specials on hurricanes and French 75s, plus NOLA food like chicken and andouille jambalaya, seafood gumbo, fried okra and king cakes (flown in from New Orleans). Live music, beads and masks will be on hand. The party goes from 7-11 p.m.

Bluestem Brasserie

Bluestem Brasserie is celebrating the beginning of the carnival weekend on Thursday, February 12 with a special Louisiana-themed menu. They'll offer a muffaletta sandwich at lunch, followed by Creole Jambalaya with Gulf shrimp, chicken, crawfish and housemade Andouille with a slice of king cake for dessert. After Thursday, gumbo and a sazerac pairing wiill be available through Fat Tuesday on February 17.

Boxing Room

For their 3rd Annual Mardi Gras celebration Boxing Room will have boiled crawfish and king cake, in addition to their regular menu. And, since they recently acquired a liquor license, enjoy a NOLA-style cocktail like a Pimm's cup, or Ramos gin fizz. Get down to the live music of Gaucho Gypsy Jazz starting at 6 p.m. Reservations recommended.

Brenda's French Soul Food

If you need to get your soul food fix, Brenda's will be open for lunch on Fat Tuesday until 3 pm, serving a special hurricane made with guava and pomegranate ($7 glass/$15 carafe). Sister cafe Libby Jane will also have mini king cakes to go until Fat Tuesday.

Cajun Pacific is popping up at Brick &Mortar for Mardi Gras with favorites like fried oysters, gumbo, and jambalaya. A free second line parade starts at 5 pm at Hayes and Octavia, followed by music from Jazz Mafia, the Stanford Marching Band and Brass Band Mission, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets to the show are $10-$15.

Old Oakland's Desco is offering a special "Carnevale da Desco" menu from February 4 through February 17. The three-course prix fixe ($36) highlights traditional Italian specialties associated with local Venetian carnivals and comes with a $10 coupon for gondola rides on Lake Merritt (not valid Valentine's Day weekend).

Elite Cafe will be celebrating Fat Tuesday with their annual Red Cross disaster-relief fundraiser, Blues, Beads and Bourbon. Enjoy live music from the Jeff Magidson Blues Band from 5-10:30pm. No cover charge for dinner guests; reservations are recommended.

The entire Fillmore district is partying for Mardi Gras, with a masquerade ball at the West Bay Conference Center and food and drink specials at all the area restaurants and bars (like 1300 on Fillmore, Yoshi's, Fat Angel, and Gussie's) with a special $10 wristband. They'll have a free live blues concert in the plaza from 5-7 p.m., followed by a second line down Fillmore, ending at the West Bay Conference Center at 7 p.m.

For $80 in advance and $95 at the door, you can eat and drink your fill of crawfish, fried chicken, jambalaya, gumbo, oysters, Abita beer, and Hurricanes, with king cake for dessert. The party starts at 6 p.m.
