Nick's Pizza's Temescal Sequel, Nick and Aron's, Is Now Open

Pies, morning pastries, and a patio.

Ellen Fort/Eater SF

Nick and Aron's, the brand-new sequel to North Oakland's popular Nick's Pizza, softly opened over the weekend in Temescal. The new project, from Aron Ford and Nick Yapor-Cox, is certainly operating on a much larger scale than their very tiny (and very popular) pizza place on Shattuck Avenue. It's housed in the former Barkada Bakery location, which came with the previous tenant's two large gas-deck ovens; there's even a 20-seat patio behind the restaurant, which will be a welcome addition to the spring dining roster.

Unlike the original Nick's, Nick and Aron's will be open all day, featuring morning espresso from Emeryville's Scarlet City Roasting Company, breakfast pastries and breads, followed by lunch and full-service dinner. The signature sourdough-crust pies remain, but the menu also reaches beyond the realm of pizza, with salads and sandwiches at lunch, and oven-baked dishes like roast chicken with sourdough stuffing, lamb meatballs with harissa sauce, and Manila clams with white wine and garlic in the evening. Desserts currently include strawberry shortcake on a homemade biscuit and chocolate mousse with salted caramel, whipped cream, and toasted almonds. For the moment, the beer and wine license is pending, but should come through shortly.

The original Nick's Pizza has been delivering via Caviar, but Nick and Aron's won't be doing the same at the moment—though that could change in the coming months. Hours are currently 7 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekends, with plans to add brunch in the near future.
