Grand Fare Market Opening in Oakland Next Week

Grand Fare Market is right on the brink of opening its market-style doors to the Oakland public. Next Tuesday, October 6 marks the first day for the massive combination oyster bar, market, café and park with lots going on, Inside Scoop reported. The project is the dream child of husband-wife team Doug Washington and Freya Prowe, who wanted a Market Hall-style spot of their own, but with an outdoor park. The duo turned the 4,500-square-foot indoor space into many sections: The market will sell grocery items like milk, fresh produce and bread with a flower shop called Brother’s & Sisters. The cafe, with prepared foods from Ben Coe (Box & Bells), will have salads, sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie to go, as well as hot food like rotisserie chicken, porchetta sandwiches and meatballs. There’s an oyster bar overlooking Grand Avenue, a section with eight draft beers, a wine corner with mostly local wine. A 1948 Airstream-style trailer will be serving housemade pastries, Linea coffee and Humphry Slocombe ice cream.

Then there’s the 3,500-square-foot side parking lot that Washington and Prowe converted into an outdoor patio-garden with trees lining the space and a distinct Parisian-style. Starting opening day, the market is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the coffee trailer from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
