November 25

NOB HILL— The cursed corner of Van Ness and Pacific will now have a fitting concept: Hex Bar and Kitchen. The food will be "international" with a decidedly clubby vibe, offering cocktails mixed tableside. [EaterWire]

NAPA— After years of serving their wine and 'cue in downtown Napa, Bounty Hunter is expanding to a full-fledged dining and retail operation at 1005 First St. The enormous space will have barbecue, drinks and retail wine sales on the first floor, a wine lab for classes and events on the second floor and their headquarters on the third and fourth floors. SONOMA— Healthy chocolates and gluten-free Parisian treats are headed to downtown Sonoma with the opening of CocoaPlanet. The sleek chocolate plant, tasting room and café will close two days per week for production of their goods, which are already distributed locally. [Sonoma Index-Tribute]

OAKLAND— Boston's popular craft brew purveyor, Craft Beer Cellaris joining Oakland's growing beer scene with retail bottle sales, plus a rotating draft list and small seating area. And in the ultimate beer geek move, every employee is required to be Cicerone Certified Beer Servers or BJCP Recognized Judges. [Berkeleyside]

TENDERLOIN— RS94109 is a record store specializing in techno, house, industrial, noise and other experimental genres from a variety of eras, but now it's a coffee shop, too. Eventually they want to add beer and wine at 835 Larkin St., but for now grab a cuppa and check out a set at their new DJ booth. [Hoodline]

PRECITA PARK— There's a new pizza spot headed to the 'hood from Eliza Laffin. Red Apron Pizzeria will be a family-friendly neighborhood spot at 3214 Forlsom St., specializing in pizza, as well 'not pizza' items like salads, piadina and zeppoles. [Bernalwood]

THE HAIGHT— Second Act Marketplace will welcome Bulka Bakery in December. Owner Tatiana Katsakina will serve Roast Co. Coffee, savory and sweet pastries, housemade bread, hot pressed sandwiches and more, for lunch and dinner. [EaterWire]

HAYES VALLEY— Following Samovar Tea Lounge's closure and failure to re-open, the space at 297 Page St. will become Revelry Bistro. Chef Brad Roth (Epic Roasthouse) will open a French-inspired all day affair early in 2016, with coffee, tea, counter-service brunch and sit-down dinner. [Hoodline]

NOPA — The Namu Gaji brothers are expanding to 553 Divisadero St. with a new restaurant called Namu Stonepot, which, while details are scarce, will likely serve sizzling Korean dishes served in a hot stone pot, as the name suggests. [EaterWire]

JACKSON SQUAREMichael and Lindsay Tusk are expanding their Quince and Cotogna empire with a new restaurant just across the street. The still-unnamed, casual project moving into 461 Pacific Ave. will be more bar than restaurant with beer and wine only and small plates inspired by Michael’s recent travels and the differences in how people eat around the world. SONOMADelhi Belly Indian Bistro is imminently opening at 520 Broadway with a tandoori oven that showcases Delhi street food, updated for Northern California, like kale fritters, organic avocado chaat and several curries. [Sonoma Index Tribune]

TENDERLOIN — Opening December 1 is a third location of Elephant Sushi at 705 Geary St. The menu will be similar to the Hyde Street outpost, but with an added omakase menu. There are only 12 seats at the sushi bar. [Hoodline]

NORTH BEACH — King of Thai Noodle House at 1268 Grant Ave. is becoming Tamarind Hall through new owners by the end of the year. It will still be affordable Thai food, with street food additions. [Hoodline]

SOMAMichael Mina is expanding his ever-growing empire of 25 restaurants with a 26th (and 11th in the Bay Area) at 350 Mission St. His team is remaining tight-lipped on what the concept will be, but anticipate more details by the end of the year. [EaterWire]

SOMA — Erik Sun, partner and sometimes chef at Bestia in Los Angeles, is opening two SF restaurants, one called Arsenal at 715 Brannan St. and the other The Hunted at 445 Harriet St. One will debut early 2016 with the other following come fall. [Hoodline]

NAPA — The Culinary Institute of America is moving into Copia, an 80,000-square-foot space with a theater, two restaurants, demonstration kitchen, classrooms, library, retail space, outdoor theater and gardens. The CIA isn’t leaving the Greystone campus; rather, it’s expanding to both locations. [Tablehopper]

SAN FRANCISCO — Acai-bowl vendor Vitality Bowls plans to have 100 franchise locations by the end of 2016, adding six more stores in the Bay Area. [SF Business Times]

UPPER HAIGHTEl Rancho Grande is opening a second location at 1654 Haight St. in early December with a very similar menu. [Hoodline]

SANTA ROSADick Blomster's Korean Diner is bringing Korean fried chicken to Don Taylor’s Omelette Express at 112 4th St. starting Friday, November 13 for several nights a week. [Tablehopper]

SOMA — Replacing longtime dive favorite Zeke’s Diamond Bar is Local Tap, though not much will be changing. There will be about 20 beers on draft and a brand new menu, but the dive bar vibe and inexpensive prices aren't going anywhere. [EaterWire]

OAKLAND — The restaurant consulting group behind Drake’s Dealership is opening another Oakland beer garden to be called Arthur Mac’s Tap & Snack come spring 2016. The restaurant will be in a new mixed use building near the MacArthur station with a coffee shop, retail space and 25 commercial studios. [EaterWire]

NAPAOenotri is teaming up with brewmaster Matt Cromwell to open Tannery Bend Beerworks, a brewery and tasting room at 101 Coombs St. in Napa early next year. Oenotri will provide the food while Cromwell will brew beer using ingredients grown in Oenotri’s garden. [EaterWire]

NORTH BEACHWater2Table, which provides fish to 180 major SF restaurants, is opening its own seafood spot at 515 Columbus Ave. Seven Fishes, as it will be named, will have a market and fish counter component as well as serve a casual lunch and classic Mediterranean seafood dinner, hopefully by late spring. CASTRO — In its first-ever expansion, Sushi Ran is opening a casual Japanese concept in the old Pesce space, hopefully by early spring 2016. [EaterWire]

TENDERLOIN — Lers Ros owner Tom Silargorn is opening Esan Classic, a Northeastern Thai restaurant at 239-743 Larkin St. He’s currently remodeling and getting permits for a hopeful late December opening. [EaterWire]

DUBLINYalla is opening the fourth location of its fast-casual Mediterranean concept on Tuesday, November 10 in the Persimmon Place shopping center at 5246 Dublin Blvd. [EaterWire]

SAN LUIS OBISPOSLO Brew is relocating to 736 Higuera St. in early 2016 with an expanded brewery, restaurant, bar and music venue. There will now be outdoor dining and a whiskey lounge. [EaterWire]

OAKLANDRich Wood, the owner of Oakland’s Wood Tavern and Southie, is taking over the Bay Wolf space with plans for an American brasserie. Chef Yang Peng will also oversee the food at the new restaurant, which does not have a name and is expected to arrive summer 2016. [Inside Scoop]

DESIGN DISTRICTThe Grove is opening its fourth cafe at One Henry Adams Street, which is set to begin construction later this year. [Inside Scoop]

ALBANY — Vegan ice cream company Mr. Dewies is opening a flagship location called Cashew Corner at 1116 Solano Ave. come January 2016. [Berkeleyside]

SOMA — Meant as a way to wind down after work, Wine Down, a new wine bar, is opening at 685 Folsom St. come early 2016 with 16 wines and five beers on tap, plus small bites like meats, cheeses, empanadas and popcorn. [Hoodline]

UPPER HAIGHT — The third location of the Vietnamese street food spot DragonEats, which sells banh mi, fresh roll and more will be at 1671 Haight St. [Hoodline]

OAKLANDNovel Brewing Company is opening a brewery at 534-square-foot tasting room at 6510 San Pablo Ave. with bar snacks and food trucks on site. [Berkeleyside]

SAN FRANCISCO — BART is upping its game with new retail pods, including Grubmarket, which sells organic food. The retail spaces debut as early as next week, and BART is seeking tenants to fill other spots. [SF Business Times]

FINANCIAL DISTRICTA grab-and-go Asian broth bowl restaurant is coming to the working neighborhood early next year. NoodleMe, at 333 Market St., will be a build-your-own bowl of noodle, toppings, protein and broth. [Hoodline]

MISSIONKobani Mediterranean Grill is opening its third location in the former Gajalee space in the Mission, which recently closed. [Tablehopper]

NORTH BEACH — Michelangelo Ristorante & Caffe owner Salvatore Cortara is opening a to-be-named Sicilian spot in December at 543 Columbus Ave. Chef Salvatore Di Stefano will make breakfast, lunch and dinner, with pastries and omelettes at breakfast, soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch and Italian classics like lasagna, eggplant parmigiana and arancini at dinner. STANFORD — Stanford Shopping Center is getting closer to opening, and the restaurants have just been announced. True Food Kitchen, Tender Greens and Minamoto Kitchoan will be feeding hungry shoppers come spring 2016 [EaterWire]

BAYVIEWDuc Loi Market is expanding to the 5800 Third Street development with 14,000 square feet of grocery store space. Construction starts this month with an opening expected in March 2016. [EaterWire]

RUSSIAN HILL — Ho's Bootleg Tavern is moving into the closed Gungho Tavern. Masaye Waugh (Skylark) and Jerrid Wood (Bullitt) are working on a neighborhood spot with chef Tim Luym (The Attic, Poleng Lounge) making American comfort food and Asian-inspired bar bites, plus a late-night ramen window. BERKELEY — After a quick life at 2468-A Telegraph Ave., Mr. Nacho has closed, and Little Gem Waffles, a Belgian liege waffle shop will be taking its place. [Berkeleyside]

SANTA ROSACucina Paradiso in Petaluma is planning a Santa Rosa location to open in early November. Chef Angelo Cucco is heading up the kitchen, and the menu will be similar to the Petaluma location. [Tablehopper]

BERKELEY — NYC street meat favorite The Halal Guys is heading into the old Le Regal space at 2126 Center St. It’s currently hiring and under construction, with no opening timeline yet. [EaterWire]

MID-MARKET — The Causwells team is opening another burger spot called Popsons in the Warfield building at 998 Market St. (joining Waystone Wine Bar, details below). Owner Alvin Garcia and chef Adam Rosenblum have been running a burger pop-up called Burger at Cease & Desist on Monday nights, and Popsons will be similar to that with burgers, fries and shakes. Burger will cease and desist (couldn’t help it) this Monday, October 19 to ready for Popsons’ arrival. [Hoodline]

ASHBURY HEIGHTS — Replacing All You Knead pizza at 1466 Haight St. is VeganBurg, a Singapore-based vegetarian burger joint that has nine burger variations on its menu, plus tofu dogs, soup, salad, dessert and more. This will be VeganBurg’s first U.S. location. [EaterWire]

NOB HILL — Very recently opened Ben Thai is already working on the space next door, which will focus on Thai street food and open for preview on October 21. [EaterWire]

EMERYVILLE — Natural grocer New Seasons Market and food trucks Mayo & Mustard and We Sushi are moving into the Emeryville Public Market. New Seasons will be 35,000-square-feet of poultry, produce, meat and more, and Mayo & Mustard and We Sushi will serve menus similar to what they offer on the food trucks. MISSION — Heading into the former Minako space at 2154 Mission St. is Posole, a — you guessed it — posole and soup spot. It’s from Pete Mrabe, the guy behind Don Pisto’s and Chubby Noodle, who reasoned, "There are all kinds of places that only sell pho, so why not just posole?" [Tablehopper]

OAKLANDShangri-La Vegan is adding another location at 4905 Telegraph Ave. in the former Tanjia space. Owners are aiming to open by the end of the year and will offer a similar menu as the original location with totally vegan, organic and macrobiotic fare from breakfast through dinner. [Inside Scoop]

CASTRO — Looks like the ill-fated 2251 Market St. space has a new tenant in the form of Finn Town. Details are scarce on what the restaurant will be like, but it has applied for a liquor license. Stay tuned for more details on this one. [Hoodline]

WALNUT CREEK — Come January 2016, Walnut Creek will get a good dose of Tony Gemignani with the second location of his Slice House. The World Pizza Cup winner is settling at 1500 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, where Teleféric and Rooftop are also expected. [Inside Scoop]

SAN FRANCISCO — Chef Michael Gaines (Kin Khao) is bringing Glena’s, a tacos and margaritas spot, to the city. There’s no set location yet, but Gaines will be holding pop-ups around the city, starting tonight with tacos al pastor at Provender Coffee Shop in Potrero Hill from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Next Thursday, October 15 brings a sit-down dinner; head here for tickets, and stay tuned for a brick-and-mortar address update.
