Ike's Sandwiches Expands Sandwich Empire to Rockridge

Sandwich lovers can get behind this Bay Area chain.

Ike's Sandwiches, the rapidly expanding bay area sandwich chain, is headed to Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood according to Inside Scoop. Construction is already underway at the new location, which is conveniently located between two Berkeley-based chains, Philz Coffee and CREAM, in the Safeway-anchored shopping development.

Apparently the plan is to recreate the winning formula of owner Ike Shehadeh's other Bay Area sandwich spots, which offer a vast selection of sandwiches like the "Menage A Trois" featuring barbecue, cheddar, halal chicken, honey mustard, pepper jack, honey and Swiss cheese. Hopefully for Shehadeh, Rockridge NIMBYs won't mind the addition of another "chain" to the area, as almost every business that's gone into the development (with the most emphasis on Safeway) has come under fire. Though it's local, Ike's boasts locations in SF, as well as L.A. and San Diego; more stores are on the docket for Uptown Oakland, Danville, Walnut Creek Concord and Emeryville (though that one's been lingering for a while already). His ice cream/burger/pizza restaurant is also on hold.

The new location is slated to open in 90 days or so, so stay tuned for more details.
