New York City is overrun with ramen shops, but none is perhaps so renowned as Ippudo. And now San Francisco will get its own taste. Coming this year, Ippudo is joining Blue Bottle at the WeWork shared office space at 2011 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley. The tonkotsu-style ramen and beloved pork buns daily inspire upwards of two hour waits at its two Manhattan locations and originated in Japan with locations now in China, London, Sydney and more. It's the latest in the area's recent ramen boom.
The expansion is part of Ippudo’s recent partnership with Panda Express with the objective to “develop and expand the brand in the US,” so this location will not be the last. Ippudo is the latest in a string of East Coast chains working their way west, including Halal Guys and the upcoming Sweetgreen.
