Crescent Pie & Sausage is Closing, But Don't Panic

Shocking shutter news this week, with super scooper Todd Price reporting that Bart Bell and Jeff Baron will shut down Mid City favorite/longstanding Eater 38 addition Crescent Pie & Sausage Co. on August 31. The duo will then focus solely on their upcoming Tulane Avenue venture Crescent Plate, which will bring plate lunches and catering to the former Pizzicare spot. While Bell & Baron were ahead of the curve opening Pizzicare on Tulane Avenue back in 2011— so much so that they just shuttered the pizzeria last month, likely due to lack of biz— they obviously still believe in the strip's potential enough to shut down their Banks Street based bread winner.

Crescent Pie & Sausage will donate all proceeds from their last day, August 31, to ALS research. No word on what will take over the Crescent Pie & Sausage space yet.

Crescent Pie itself—and before that Huevos— were both pioneers on what is now a block-long Banks Street food hub with Wakin Bakin, Biscuits & Buns on Banks and Mid City Pizza all opening over the past year. Baron tells The Times-Pic, "when we started... the area over there was pretty desolate. Tulane Avenue is experiencing the same kind of situation. We want to put all our focus and energy there."

As for upcoming Crescent Plate, apparently it will open sometime this fall instead of aforementioned early 2015. Customers will choose "from four proteins and nine sides," including Crescent Pie staples like housemade sausages, jambalaya, and that insane mac n cheese. However, NO PIZZA will be served at Crescent Plate, as opposed to previous reports.
