Aline St. Beer Garden's Awesome New Pop-up Roster

The Touro neighborhood's local biergarten has been expanding its beer selection and created a larger bar space, and used the old bar spot as a popup kitchen. Now Aline Street Beer Garden owner Jason Comboy and manager Mike Woodhull are showcasing several small operations who dream of making it big in the big culinary city of New Orleans.

The bar features "pop-ups in residence" as Comboy calls the regularly occurring weekly (or bi-weekly) pop-ups, as well as "rotating guests," who do one show only. From fancy nachos to oysters on the halfshell, here's a rundown of what's happening when, and the level of potential deliciousness involved.

On weeknights, the food starts up at around 6pm, and on Sundays pop-ups are in residence for lunch/football through the evening (unless otherwise noted.)

Monday nights, starting in September: Crescent Cookery, serving fancy nachos for Monday Night Football with smoked pulled pork or chicken tienga, and a variety of sandwiches including a vegan sweet potato poboy and roasted chicken Philly style with cheese.

(Taco) Tuesday nights: Cocina Dolores, serving carnitas, lengua, pollo, and calavaza tacos for $2.50 each or burritos with any combination of the meats, cheese, rice and beans. Taco Tuesdays have been in effect over the last several weeks with great reports.

Alternating Wednesdays: Liam's Super Delicious Pop-Up, which will change from week to week, but a recent menu featured grinders with stewed chicken, sweet and spicy ham and a vegetarian selection.

On alternating Thursdays and alternating Fridays (Thursday one week, Friday the next): Joie de Vie, who have been in residence for about a month. This pop-up a variety of different cuisines every week, from Jamaican jerk ribs to gourmet pizzas. Joie de Vie will also be on-site every other Sunday from lunch time into the evening with wings and pizza for the Saints fans in the house. Or just pizza and wings fans.

On rotating weekends (every other Saturday night and Sunday lunch until evening), starting on September 6: RAH\BAH, a New England inspired seafood and raw bar, which chef Will Salisbury says is "inspired by my growing up cooking in New England and working on islands such as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard... with a twist." The menu will feature oysters on the half shell and a lobster roll among other items.

Note: Aline is still looking for more pop-ups for one-offs or a regular residency. Any interested parties should contact pop-up manager Mike Woodhull at (202) 494-8579.
