The Milly Sample Sale Is Huge, Colorful, and Full of Dresses

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Update: Prices have been slashed for the sale's final day; head here to see what you'll be paying. Original sale prices are reflected below.

It's hard to tell if the Milly sample sale wants you to hit a summer block party or a Christmas soiree, but who says you have to choose? If one thing is clear from the clothing on offer at Clothingline, which we previewed this morning before the doors opened to the public at 11am, it's that cooler weather doesn't always mean darker colors. At least not at this sale, where black sequined blazers share racks with neon body-con bralettes.

While there's ample selection of almost every category of clothing on the second floor of 261 West 36th Street, dresses take the cake at the event that Clothingline is billing as their biggest Milly sample sale yet. When you check out Milly's dresses online, they normally range from $375 to $1,000 — here, however, shift dresses and ball gowns alike will only cost you $79. Check out the styles we liked (plus the full price list for all clothing categories) in the gallery above.

In terms of sizing, it's what you'd expect entering the sale section of your favorite store: sizes small or large, with not much in between. When it comes to their girls' section (which is adorable, by the way), samples come in sizes four and ten. Most of the women's clothing isn't marked with any size at all, so it's best to check it out for yourself in the open fitting rooms to see if you could pull it off.

The sale is packed with the last gasps of summer clearance and the first party clothes of the holiday season, complete with bags ($29 to $49) in every color to match whatever look you leave with. That could be a bulky blue cropped sweater and a neon pink pencil skirt, or a more understated dark gray long-sleeved dress perfect for the office, paired with a giant furry coat to spice up the look.

Sales associates told us that they're definitely planning on restocking, so you may want to pop by more than once before the doors close on Friday evening; check out the sale hours in the Dealfeed below.
