There's only a few hours left at Jonathan Simkhai's one-day-only sample sale in the Garment District, and it boasts an impressive variety of styles and sizes in the sample section. Though not all prices are clearly marked, the staff in the small and intimate space is extremely helpful, and trying pieces on in the middle of the showroom is totally acceptable.
The first two racks on the left-hand side of the room are stock items, while the remaining racks in the room are samples. In the stock section, prices ranged from $30 to $325, with dresses for $150 and tops and bottoms for $75. In the sample section, prices ranged from just $50 to $75. All shoes are $40, though the variety and sizes are limited.
Some of our favorite items of the sale were bottoms—pants, shorts, and skirts were in abundance. Particularly, a pair of sample pants in a thin, suede-like material is available in black, pink, and beige for $50. Sizes weren't marked very clearly; the pink pants looked smaller than the black and beige pairs, and the black was definitely a size 8.
Other pants we liked included a single sample pair of white tuxedo pants for $50 in a size medium and, in the stock section, a pair of black silk jogging shorts in a size large for $75.
Shoppers were most drawn to dresses, both stock and sample. The best selection of these are the $75 samples, which ranges in styles from simple daytime numbers to tight black cocktail dresses. In particular, we liked a blue/gray shirt dress for $75 in a size small, and a metallic gold and black dress in a size 0. In the stock section, the color scheme was uniform‚mostly navy blue, black, white, and blush, while the sample section was quite varied.
