The News Showroom sample sale officially opens today 10am, and we stopped by the preview yesterday afternoon at 495 Broadway in Soho. There are great discounts on brands like 6397, Common Projects, Public School, Tim Coppens, and Public School (and yes, including $10 jeans).
Cheap Monday women's jeans ($20-—$30) are hanging on racks on the right-hand side of the space, just inside the door. Sizes range from 24—34, and there are lots of styles in every size. Racks of women's apparel are behind the jeans, moving along the right-hand wall throughout the space. There's a good mix of styles, and each size is well-represented. There is a table of women's jeans for $10 in the center of the space as well. We also saw a leather jacket priced at $80, a plain black maxi dress for $40, and a blue chunky sweater, also for $40.
Men's Cheap Monday apparel is across from the women's on the left side of the space. We saw lots of sport shirts and sweaters. Notable styles include a printed cream sport shirt for $20, and a long-sleeved blue t-shirt for $30.
The back of the sale area is split up the same way, with men's apparel and shoes on the left, and women's on the right. In the center, there are tables of scarves (prices as marked), underwear ($10—$20), accessories like beanies ($10), bags (some $20, other as marked) and a few Cheap Monday swim styles ($10) in the middle. Cheap Monday accessories ($10), Destin scarves (as marked), and pieces by Folk (as marked) are on tables along the back.
Women's apparel is mostly Clu, with one rack of Alberto Biani and the selection of 6397 at the back. Be warned that everything from Clu is a size small. There are a few racks of Public School in the center of the back space, and tons of 6397 jeans are on racks along the wall. We liked a Public School silk shirt dress with an abstract print ($358), and a shimmery white Clu skirt ($50), plus a black 6397 jumpsuit ($350). Shoes by Common Projects are $75 for pumps, $100 for open-toe sandals, $150 for sneakers, and $175 for boots; most of these are size 37.
Men's apparel is a good mix of Public School, Officine Generale. and Tim Coppens, plus a few Long Journey coats. Sizing appears to be more fleshed out than the women's. There are also 6397 graphic tees for $30, and graphic sweats for $40. Notable styles include a green polka dot Officine Generale sport shirt for $90, a rugged Long Journey coat for $750, and a 6397 "Herb" graphic tee for $30.
Public School shoes are $100, and there's a limit of two pairs per person on Common Projects shoes, which are $175 for sneakers and low-top shoes and $200 for high-top sneakers and boots. It's mostly size 42 for both brands.
The crowd was growing by the minute at the preview, so we're guessing that the first day crowds will be fairly substantial as well. The sale runs through Saturday at 6pm; Check out the Dealfeed below for more details.
