Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We checked out the fall edition of the James Perse sample sale at 260 Fifth Avenue last night to preview the offerings and note how well that "up to 75% off" discount held up against the selection. The verdict? It's certainly true for some of the merchandise, which is a total grab bag of seasons — you'll have get in soon to grab the winter/fall styles and colors.

Women will want to start on the right-hand rack, closest to the entrance. That's where you'll find collection jackets, coats, puffers, and sweaters, all for $150 (in sizes 0 to 3, or XS to L, to translate from Perse-ian). This is a $30 increase from the two sales this brand held last season. We especially liked a women's puffer vest (was $350) and a black zip jacket (was $495). Regular jackets and sweaters are $90.

The next two aisles have dresses for $60, skirts for $40, and pants and shorts for $70, including lots of crops and fleece styles. The back corner has a few more sweatshirts for women ($50), as well as sports bras for $20 and yoga pants for $30 (were $105) from the activewear line Yosemite.

The tall racks toward the entrance have a few tank top styles for $20 each. There are also plenty of short-sleeved tees for $30, long-sleeved tops for $40, and knit tops for $45 in a rainbow of colors. Lounge pants are $30 and fleece bottoms are $50, ideal for "Netflix and winter."

The men's section has approximately the same pricing: $150 for collection jackets and sweaters and $90 for regular, and fleece bottoms for $50. There are button-down shirts for $60, sweatshirts and polos for $50, and board shorts at the back for $50 each. We liked the gray collection sweater options ($150, down from $450) as well as the sweatshirts (were $165) and pants for $70 (were $225). Sizes in men's run 1 to 5, with more options on the larger side at XL or XXL.

There are a few pairs of shoes— and we mean very few — so head to the cashier side first if you're a sample size. Drkshdw footwear is $340; Golden Goose's is $199; summer sandals from Apiece Apart, Danner, Diemme, and K Jacques are all $160; and Birkenstocks are $70. Winter beanies are nearby for $25 (were $90), as well as large canvas tote bags for $60 (were $250), and circle scarves in black and gray for $75 (were $225).

Price signs around the venue indicate a furnishing category, but those items are nowhere to be seen on the floor as of last night; the shipment should be coming in or get unpacked later in the week, sales associates said. For when that moment comes, prices are as follows: bath and beach towels are $60, hand towels are $20 and wash towels are $10, blankets are $399, shams are $139, fitted sheets are $70, pillow cases are $30, and duvet covers are $120.

While markdowns are likely toward the end of the week, they're not guaranteed, and middle sizes tend to go quickly at this sale. For more information, check out the Dealfeed below.
